Every year, a bunch of part-time journalists get together in Hollywood and hack out the winners of the Golden Globes, the first -- and most informal -- stop on America's movie-and-television annual awards tour that leads up to the Oscars at the end of the year. Long critized for their casual and shifty judging criteria, the awards nevertheless generate enough publicity and spectacle to remain in the same bracket as the other major awards ceremonies. Journalists have often suggested that the Golden Globes, despite their shortcomings, do a better job than the Oscars of representing the preferences of common people. This was certainly true this year in at least one category -- Vizu.com voters strongly favored (64%) the Johnny Cash biography Walk the Line to win in the Musical / Comedy category. These predictions held true. Whether or not the Globes ever clean up their somewhat spotty decision-maknig process, they will certainly remain a fixture of Hollywood for the forseeable future.

I find it somewhat ironic that your last post was called "Cleavage Check" and this post is about the "Golden Globes."
