iPhone features

There are a number of iPhone features which make it attractive - both functionally and aesthetically. A recent market research poll suggests that the touchscreen is the most anticipated feature.

32% of those polled* said they were most excited by the iPhone's touchscreen interface.

In addition, the cannibalization of the iPod product line seems less likely given the lack of excitement surrounding the iTunes Music Player.

iPhone - iPod Cannibalization Data

Will the iPhone replace the iPod? Analysts, competitors and Apple insiders are clearly very interested in whether the iPhone will cannibalize the iPod.

63% of those polled* said they'd stop carrying their MP3 Player or iPod if they purchased an iPhone.

When asked specifically about their iPod, 45% of those polled** would get rid of their iPod if they purchased an iPhone.

The iPhone seems destined to cannibalize some of the iPod market. However, many will not give it up and the introduction of the iPhone may create a clean product flow from iPod to iPhone, locking out competitors not only in the music arena, but camera, phone and PDA as well.

Time will tell.

iPhone the whole enchilada

Pick your "whole" cliche, the iPhone could be the whole enchilada, the whole nine yards, the whole kit and caboodle or the whole megillah. Will the iPhone be the first all-in-one gadget to successfully combine cell phone, mp3 player and camera into one sleek package?

68% of those polled* think the iPhone will pull it off.

iPhone expectations are high

There's been plenty of hype around the iPhone, but just how high are the expectations for this shiny new Apple device. A recent poll suggests it could be revolutionary or, as the tech world might say, disruptive.

59% of those polled* believe the iPhone is going to change the way we use phones in the same way the iPod changed the way we listen to music.

A Wired magazine article noted that "Wherever you go, white headphones dangle from peoples' ears." even on the Microsoft campus! The iPod is a tough act to follow. Now made tougher with such high public expectations.

iPhone to create AT&T sales boom

An internal AT&T memo obtained by The Boy Genius Report says that "No additional vacation requests will be approved during the launch period (6/15 – 7/15)."  It goes on to say that this is "likely to be the biggest selling period we have seen in a few years."

A recent poll* suggests that these preparations are appropriate for the launch of the much anticipated iPhone and that AT&T will see a surge in subscribers.

40% would switch to the Cingular network (now the new AT&T) just to get Apple's iPhone.

Purchasing an iPhone: Market Research

The exact date for Apple's anticipated iPhone launch isn't yet known. However, rumors and reports place it between mid-June and mid-July. This is a perfect time to revisit some of the market research done on the iPhone right after it's announcement at MacWorld 2007.

29% of those polled* plan on buying an iPhone right away.

This may generate what Gearlog describes as "something akin to a console launch, with scores of giddy fanboys lined up outside of Cingular and Apple stores, all itching to get their fingers on those softly glowing touchscreens."
